In celebration of Senior Nutrition Month, UCDD is excited to emphasize the significance of Senior Nutrition Programs and their essential role in promoting the health and well-being of our seniors. The following information was provided by the senior center:
The Cannon County Senior Center proudly serves as a Nutrition Site, offering Fit Clean Meals—hot, nutritious congregate meals—five days a week. Additionally, Meals on Wheels volunteers deliver frozen Fit Clean Meals once a week to homebound seniors.
For many, these meals provide more than just nourishment—they create lasting connections. Joyce Rice and Jean Murawski, who met at the Senior Center, have become close friends. They enjoy lunch together five days a week and volunteer at the Front Desk. Joyce, who turns 93 next month, also assists as a Nutrition Program Volunteer, helping the Kitchen Manager with meal preparation and serving trays in the cafeteria.
Joyce appreciates the convenience of the congregate meals, saying, “I don’t have to worry about fixing lunch.”
Jean values the nutrition, adding, “The meals are healthy, and I can’t always make a meal at home this nutritious.”
For Gary Winnett, who also eats at the center five days a week, the meals are not only nutritious but also cost-effective, as he finds it difficult to prepare a meal at home for the same price. Likewise, Michael and Vicki rely on the Nutrition Program for affordable, well-balanced meals.
Beyond the food, these seniors cherish the social connections that come with dining together. The Cannon County Senior Center’s Nutrition Program continues to provide healthy meals, companionship, and a welcoming community for all who participate.
