In celebration of Senior Nutrition Month, UCDD is excited to emphasize the significance of Senior Nutrition Programs and their essential role in promoting the health and well-being of our seniors. The following information was provided by the senior center:
As the director of Fair Park Activity Center, Alicia Arehart is reminded every day of how much their nutrition program means to the members. For many, it’s not just about the food – it’s about gathering around the table with friends, sharing stories, and feeling a true sense of belonging.
“The hot, homemade meals we serve aren’t just delicious; they’re carefully prepared to be nutritionally balanced and designed to support the health and well-being of our seniors. But the magic happens when our members connect with one another over meals that bring back cherished memories. We often hear how much they love when we serve dishes that remind them of the meals they grew up with, passed down through generations. It’s not unusual for our kitchen staff to be asked for recipes, and for members to share their own family favorites. These meals are more than nourishment – they’re a connection to the past and a source of comfort.”
Their nutrition program is a lifeline that offers not just sustenance but a sense of community, comfort, and connection. It’s a true “place at the table” for everyone who walks through our doors.
