Through a contract with the Department of Environment and Conservation (TDEC), our staff provides solid waste management assistance to the Upper Cumberland. Services include support in compiling county Annual Progress Reports (ARPs), filing a Needs Assessment (NA) for each county every five years, and helping counties find and apply for grants to update county solid waste equipment and facilities.

Additional services include:

  • Participation in county Solid Waste Planning – updating goals and measuring progress

  • Education on sufficient and environmentally sound disposal

  • Management of Household Hazardous Waste (HHW)

  • Encouraging increased access and participation in recycling

  • Increasing the diversion of organics from the waste stream

  • Research on waste reduction and recycling technology

  • Education on landfill disposal

  • Assistance in updating county Disaster Debris Management Plans

GIS Recycling Database Now Online

Counties benefit from recycling in a number of ways.  Recycling brings revenue to the county, reduce disposal costs and helps the county reach the 25% diversion rate as required by the State of Tennessee.  This database is a list of Vendors that recycle in the Upper Cumberland area.  Also listed are the materials they recycle.  Contact them if you have materials that need to be recycled. This database also lists all recycling centers, transfer stations, convenience centers and green boxes in the Upper Cumberland that accept garbage and/or recyclables.
