The Upper Cumberland Development District has an opening for a Community Development Planner. The Community Development Planner will assist local governments with the planning and administration of projects that will enhance the communities within the Upper Cumberland Region.

Duties include:

  • Pursue opportunities to promote economic and community development in the 14-county region including:
  • Meet with local elected officials and assist with planning for future projects
  • Maintain working knowledge of private and public funding opportunities
  • Maintain a working knowledge of communities’ economic and community development needs and potential projects
  • Work with communities to research, develop and submit grant applications to various state, federal, and private funding agencies
  • Coordinate with and obtain support from other agencies in the development of projects
  • Administer funded grant projects in accordance with funding agency guidelines.
    • Administration may include but is not limited to:
      • Preparing environmental review records, conducting public meetings, regular reporting, grant financial management, maintenance of both electronic and paper grant files, maintaining regular communication with grantee representatives
  • Make presentations to community groups about UCDD Economic and Community Development activities, as requested
  • Work with UCDD staff to research and develop strategic and comprehensive plans for communities in the region, as assigned by the Director

Qualifications:

  • Possess good oral and written communication skills with basic knowledge of English grammar, punctuation, capitalization, and number style
  • Ability to read and follow written and verbal directions
  • Ability to work both independently and as a team member
  • Experience working with state/federal government programs
